BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams traveled to Pennfield High School Friday night, and both varsity squads came away with big wins against the Panthers.
After trailing 14-7 after the first quarter, the Cardinal boys clamped down defensively and went on an 18-2 run in the second quarter as they went on to beat Pennfield 44-30. Donte Work notched his fourth double-double in five games, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Elijah Sloan came off the bench to score 9 points on three triples. He also had three steals. Niko Downs had five assists. Coldwater improved to 11-7 overall, 9-3 in the Interstate 8, and remain tied with Marshall atop the league standings after the Redhawks edged Parma Western 57-55.
The Cardinals host Harper Creek on Tuesday.

The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter and held on for a 46-37 win at Pennfield for their 11th consecutive victory. Mya Porter led Coldwater with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Elli Anderson, Elli Foley, and Rylie VanAken each added 8 points as the Cards improved to 19-1 overall and 11-1 in the Interstate 8, tied with Jackson Northwest for the league lead.
Coldwater travels to Harper Creek on Tuesday.
