BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Branch and Hillsdale Counties for Wednesday from 7 am through 4 pm but far worse conditions are expected to the north.
Freezing rain is expected in Branch and Hillsdale Counties on Wednesday with a total ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.
Slippery travel conditions are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the latter part of the morning
commute.
Forecasters say freezing rain will arrive from south to north shortly after sunrise. By the early afternoon, temperatures are expected to gradually warm above freezing so the freezing rain risk is expected to diminish.
Untreated bridges and overpasses will be the first surfaces to freeze.
Meanwhile, an Ice Storm Warning has been issued for a portion of southwest Michigan including Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson Counties from 10 am Wednesday to 4 am on Thursday. Forecasters say significant icing is expected with a total ice accumulations of up to a half inch. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch is expected with winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice and travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions will greatly impact the Wednesday evening commute. Travel is being strongly discouraged.
