BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – With a forecast calling for freezing rain, a possible ice storm and difficult driving conditions, all of the Branch County school districts decided to cancel classes for the day on Wednesday.
Union City school officials threw in the sponge on Tuesday night while officials in the Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson school districts decided to scrub the school day early Wednesday morning.
The Branch I.S.D., Pansophia Academy in Coldwater, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Coldwater and St. Mary’s Assumption School in Bronson also cancelled classes.
National Weather Service forecasters were calling for freezing rain with a total ice accumulations in Branch County of up to two tenths of an inch.
Branch and Hillsdale Counties were under a Winter Weather Advisory until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday as roads may become icy due to the freezing rain.
Far worse conditions were expected to the north with Ice Storm Warnings posted in Calhoun, Jackson and Kalamazoo Counties.
