COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy says they have restored power to thousands, but over 180,000 remain without electricity this morning after Wednesday’s ice storm.
Over 450 crews will be involved in around-the-clock work, including line workers from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia
About a half-inch of ice, equivalent to the weight of a baby grand piano, covered Michigan’s southern counties, resulting in more than 5,700 downed wires and more than 215,000 outages.
Just like when the last major storm went through Branch County in August of 2021, it could be early next week before everyone is back on line.
As of Friday morning, over 5,900 customers were still without power in Branch County. Hillsdale County has over 16,000 customers still without power, which is about 85% of the residents in the county.
