COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that the ice storm that hit Coldwater and the surrounding areas last Wednesday led to more than 850 Coldwater B.P.U. customers losing their power.
He says the CBPU fared well during the day, but at around 5:00 p.m. last Wednesday, the weight of the ice and the wind caused many branches to break off and hit the power lines.
Baker reports crews from the CBPU started restoration immediately and worked until 3:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
At that time, there were still about 380 customers still without power. Crews were sent home for some much needed rest and started back up again at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
The utility requested mutual aid from the City of Bowling Green, Ohio. With their help, Baker says the power was restored to all those that could be restored on Thursday evening.
With the recent ice storm, the City of Coldwater will begin collecting brush a month earlier than normal this year.
Residents can place their brush between the curb and sidewalk, not in the road. The City will begin monthly brush collection on Monday, March 6.
In addition, Coldwater and Coldwater Township residents can drop off brush and yard waste at the City’s Municipal Services Department yard located at 45 Industrial Avenue during normal business hours.
