BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Just about all of the lights are back on in Branch County following a major ice storm that took place last week.
Consumer’s Energy says the remaining 72 customers along the Branch-Hillsdale County line who are without power should be back on line by midday on Wednesday, one week after the ice storm coated power lines and trees with over a half inch of ice.
There were over 3,200 customers in Hillsdale County still without power as of Wednesday morning. Some of those customers have been without power for a week.
Over 31,000 customers around Michigan were without power on Wednesday after two ice storms hit Michigan.
Over 2,000 lineworkers are continued their round-the-clock effort overnight, with a goal to return power to almost all customers Wednesday.
“We know the communities we serve are ready to move on from Mother Nature’s fury, and we are, too. Our crews – and crews from four other states – remain focused on getting the lights back on for as many people as possible, as safely and as soon as possible,” said Jeff Shingler, one of Consumers Energy’s officers in charge for the event. “We are humbled by the faith so many people are putting in us to provide power their homes and businesses. This work is all about people and all about communities.”
The 600 crews working to restore power include some from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia.
They should finish making repairs in southern Michigan by noon Wednesday before traveling north to continue working where Monday’s ice storm caused damage.
