COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a bid of just under $73,000 on Monday night for the resurfacing of the eight existing Post Tension Concrete Tennis Courts located at Heritage Park.
Racquet Sports of Comstock Park submitted the winning bid. They performed the original surfacing of the concrete courts in August of 2016 and were one of two companies to submit bids for the current project.
Economic Development Director Lisa Miller told the Council the resurfacing of the courts is a project that needs to take place every seven to 10 years.
She said the courts have been damaged by those who are not necessarily tennis players.
The work will include having the surface thoroughly cleaned, power washed and scraped to remove irregularities, stains, dirt, debris and peeling paint.
Repairs will also be made with an acrylic patch mix.
Due to the time of year and desire to avoid any disruption to the tennis season in late summer, the city has requested the project be completed by the end of June. Racquet Sports says a new surface will be ready for the start of the high school boys’ tennis season in August.
The girls’ season and the middle school season will to play this spring on the courts in their current condition. The Racquet Sports bid comes with a one-year warranty for workmanship.
The project would be funded through $52,936 in existing General Fund reserves as well as a $20,000 donation from the Tennis Community from funds being held at the Branch County Community Foundation.
