COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker reported to the City Council on Monday night that the city was not awarded a Michigan D.N.R. Spark Grant this round for the Waterworks Park Improvement Project.
He said there were 21 awards out of 460 applications that were submitted to the state which came out to a rate of five percent.
Baker said they are taking a wait-and-see attitude concerning the next step in the process.
The Council will have to approve another request from city officials to submit a second grant application.
A $400,000 grant was being sought with a local match of $200,000. It was proposed $50,000 be allocated in City funds with the other $150,000 coming from Coldwater BPU funds.
The program utilizes American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
Spark grants are designed to help local communities that want to create, renovate or redevelop public recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
City and CBPU staff have been working on the proposed renovation of Waterworks Park for over a year and identified the Spark grant as a possible funding source for the project.
