BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – While about six inches of wet, heavy snow fell in the Coldwater area during Friday’s winter storm, heavier amounts were reported to the east according to data released by the National Weather Service.
They say the precipitation began as mostly rain then gradually became either all snow, or a wintry mix of rain, snow, and sleet.
The greatest snowfall reported was 10 inches near Jonesville. There was a report of a 8-and-a-half inch snowfall at Kinderhook.
Between six to eight inches of snow fell along the Branch-Hillsdale County line.
Wind gusts were as high as 35 to 55 mph, with a few gusts near 60 mph.
There were power outages and sporadic damage to trees and/or power lines from the wind combined with saturated soils, and the heavy, wet snow.
Almost 2,300 Consumer’s Energy customers in Branch County lost power because of the Friday storm which was less than the nearly 6,600 customers who were knocked into the dark during the February 22 ice storm.
