COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Community Foundation Executive Director Erica Heminger spoke to the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session last Thursday about establishing the Branch County Reverse Scholarship Fund.
Heminger is asking the County to enter into an agreement with the Community Foundation for this program that would prevent a so-called local talent drain on small communities.
This is a program that would award money to college graduates to help pay back student loans. In return these graduates would return and contribute to the area.
Commissioners are expected to take action on Monday afternoon on an agreement outlining the program and a resolution in support of it.
There is no funding required by the county for this program, although the Community Foundation has requested $100,000 of ARPA funds. They have $70,000 available at this time.
