COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked Monday night to approve a resolution which would schedule a public hearing on March 27 to consider the submission of an application to the State of Michigan for a grant that which would be used to help fund renovations at Rotary Park.
The total cost of the project is estimated at just over $643,000.
City Manager Keith Baker says the City would be seeking grant funding in the amount of $300,000 which is the maximum under the program.
The resolution states the City will provide any additional funding needed for completion of the project. The staff has proposed allocating over $343,000 in cannabis tax revenue as the local match for the project.
The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant application would go to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Baker says the grant application deadline is April 1, 2023.
According to a letter from Baker to the Council for Monday’s meeting, the proposed renovation project would include the construction of a new public boat launch, relocated ADA accessible kayak and canoe launch as well as improved and increased vehicle parking for boaters and park visitors.
One of the requirements for the grant application is a resolution from the municipality’s governing body in support of the grant application that includes an opportunity for public input on the request.
