COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a Power Sales Contract and Supplemental Agreement on Monday night that the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities is entering into with American Municipal Power for the purchase up to seven-and-a-half megawatts of capacity from the Michigan R.I.C.E. Peaking Project.
R.I.C.E. stands for Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine.
The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors gave Director Paul Jakubczak authorization during their February 1 meeting to enter into the agreement.
Jakubczak says the project will consist of backup diesel generation being installed near the old power plant on Bennett Street.
The Coldwater B.P.U., American Municipal Power and the Michigan South Central Power Agency have finalized the necessary agreements.
