COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a renewal of an agreement between the city and Girard Township on Monday night for fire and emergency response services provided by the Coldwater Fire Department.
City Manager Keith Baker says the agreement has a term of five years at a flat rate of $60,000 per year which is just above the township’s current payment.
It includes the transfer of Girard Township’s 40 percent ownership of the so-called “Township Tanker” to the City which Baker said is very similar to the recently approved agreement with Coldwater Township.
According to Baker, this will save the Township annual fuel and maintenance costs and the City will realize the residual value of the piece of apparatus.
Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz said recently in his annual report, the number of runs to Girard Township average about half of those to Coldwater Township.
The existing agreement between the City and Girard Township will expire on June 30, 2023. The Girard Township Board approved the draft agreement at its meeting on March 6.
