COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch I.S.D. Board of Education took action on several items Wednesday afternoon which are designed to improve security in the district.
The Board approved a proposal totaling over $17,400 from Critical Response Group out of New Jersey that would provide critical incident mapping of district buildings to area police agencies.
B.I.S.D. Business Manager Diane Shiery said the state will provide some of the funds.
Also approved at a cost of $10,000 was a proposal for a district risk assessment that would be performed by Secure Education Consultants of Grand Rapids. Shiery said the state would provide funding not to exceed $2,000 per building.
Superintendent Kris Jenkins said this is part of a statewide effort to improve school security.
She said the security measures came about after the Oxford school shooting.
The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education approved both of the proposals on Monday night.
In addition, the B.I.S.D. Board approved a bid over $103,000 from Overhead Door of Battle Creek for six rolling security grills that would be used to improve security and school safety.
