COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man who was charged in two counties for crimes he committed on October 22, 2021 was sentenced Thursday morning in Branch County Circuit Court.
27-year-old Dylan Brand was given a prison sentence of 14 to 50 years after he entered a guilty plea to an armed robbery charge.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed first degree home invasion and felony firearm charges along with a habitual offender sentencing enhancer.
Brand was given credit for 277 days he has served in jail.
Brand’s Branch County sentence will run concurrent to a 17-year prison sentence he received in St. Joseph County after a jury there convicted him on charges of third degree fleeing and eluding, assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer and felony firearm.
Brand was arrested by Sturgis Police and a Michigan State Police K9 after he fled from law enforcement at speeds approaching 100 mph through a residential area of Sturgis. A Michigan State Police K-9 unit assisted in tracking down a stolen handgun that St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney David Marvin said was hidden by Brand during the foot chase.
Authorities say the series of events started earlier in the day when he robbed a Bronson area woman at gunpoint in her home.
