HANOVER, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Baseball opened their 2023 season with a doubleheader sweep at Hanover Horton on Tuesday after the site of the game had to be moved.
Field conditions made it impossible to play in Quincy so the game was switched at the last minute to Hanover Horton.
On the field, the Orioles took advantage of a few offensive opportunities, played solid defense and rode the arm of Senior Brady Mescher in the opener for a 4-1 win against the state ranked Comets.
Mescher took a shut out into the sixth inning and finished with five strikeouts while scattering just four hits.
At the plate, the Orioles managed just four hits none bigger than Grant Holroyd’s two run double in the fifth inning.
Ryan Kempter had two hits and a stolen base while Riley Miner added a hit and two stolen bases.
Brennen Allman also swiped two bases. Hunter Tinervia, the Orioles clean up hitter, had three walks.
Quincy won the nightcap 5-2. The Orioles are scheduled to host Grass Lake on Thursday.
