BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph and Steuben Counties are included in a Fire Weather Watch that has been issued by the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana for elevated fire danger, which is in effect from noon Wednesday through 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Forecasters are calling for southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and a relative humidity as low as 25 percent.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to be in the upper 70s.
The combination of strong winds, very low relative humidity and abnormally dry conditions will likely promote rapid spread of any fires.
The threat will be greatest in rural areas where fine dead fuels will continue to dry out and be susceptible to rapid fire spread from any ignition source.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
