COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man who was originally charged with a pair of obstructing police officer charges entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanor count of disorderly person-jostling on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
57-year-old Christopher Coscarelly was arrested last October as part of a bizarre series of events concerning a run down structure on Burch Road that he occupied.
Coscarelly was ordered to pay $225 in fines and costs. He did not get any jail time.
According to Branch County court documents, the building had been at the center of a zoning violation dispute between Coscarelly and Coldwater Township. Magistrate Valarie White issued an order for demolition on May 2, 2020.
It was set on fire allegedly by Coscarelly as it was being torn down. As a condition of his bond during his arraignment last October, he was ordered to stay at least 100 feet away from the workers or the building being demolished.
Branch County court documents state while the structure was burning, explosions were heard from propane tanks inside along with possible ammunition.
Coldwater firefighters had to be called in to put the fire out. The structure was described a two story hut with no utilities.
