COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution on Tuesday which advances $250,000 to Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in order to get it though some tight financial times this spring.
Commissioner Jon Houtz read from part of the resolution which asked for a long term financial sustainability plan from Maple Lawn.
Maple Lawn is still in the process of paying back the State of Michigan $874,000 after they got a notice of a Medicaid Interim Payment adjustment last June.
Maple Lawn Administrator Jayne Sabaitis told the commissioners during their work session last Thursday that the money should be the only cash needed from the county.
Commissioners voted last August to advance Maple Lawn up to $1 million in $250,000 increments. This was the first increment to be drawn.
Maple Lawn is awaiting an anticipated $3.6 million Employee Retention Credit from the federal government, which was part of the COVID-19 relief package and are expecting a percentage increase in Medicaid reimbursement.
Commission Chair Tim Stoll hopes there is a a more permanent solution can be found.
A cut in residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic is seen as the main reason Maple Lawn has gotten into this financial position but Sabaitis told the Commissioners last week the census at the facility is on the rise, with 92 patients in February and March.
