BUTLER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The driver of a Litchfield fire truck was injured Wednesday afternoon in a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Clarendon and Butler Roads as the fire engine was heading to a field fire in the 1000 block of Butler Road.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash was reported at 2:26 p.m. as a 2017 Chevy Silverado pick up driven by 55-year-old David Smalley was trying to turn left from Clarendon Road to Butler Road.
A Sheriff’s Department press release states he did not see the 1990 International Fire Truck operated by 50-year-old Daniel Roberts of Litchfield as it was heading west on Clarendon with its lights and siren operating.
Roberts sustained injuries to the forehead. He was taken by Lifecare Ambulance to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. Smalley was not injured.
Quincy firefighters were initially dispatched to the field fire just before 2:00 p.m.. Mutual aide was requested first from the Tekonsha Fire Department and then from Litchfield.
Deputies were assisted by the Litchfield and Quincy Fire Departments, Lifecare Ambulance, Buds Wrecker and Consumers Energy.
