CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A group of Calhoun County dispatchers were honored last Wednesday for their actions on September 13, 2022 in regards to a man wanted out of Branch County who was described as suicidal.
Honored with a Team Award by the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority were Supervisor Kurnin Pace along with Telecommunicators Samantha Berry, Kaitlynn Kistel, Katie Gilman, Allyson Pewoski and Kate Wegener.
The award is presented to a team of telecommunications staff for the successful handling of a major, critical, spectacular, or noteworthy incident that involves the coordination of multiple public safety responses and other emergency resources.
The suspect they had to deal with was a wanted felon who was involved in a police chase in Branch County in which shots were fired at officers.
The pursuit in Branch County started in Coldwater and involved at least four Sheriff’s Department vehicles. A deputy was forced off of the road during the pursuit but he was not injured and there was no damage to the vehicle.
The suspects cell phone location was later pinged near Homer. Calhoun County deputies tried to stop the vehicle but the suspect fled.
A multi-county, multi-agency pursuit with shots fired at officers ended about an hour after the cell phone was pinged when the suspect was placed into custody.
