BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Batavia Township home which was undergoing a renovation was destroyed in a fire that broke out late Tuesday night.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber reports the Bronson Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at 298 Bater Road just before 10:00 p.m. by Branch County Central Dispatch.
Fire crews arrived to find flames coming from a single-story home.
Coldwater, Lakeland, and Union City Fire Departments were called for mutual aid.
Wilber says the home, which was valued at $50,000, was a total loss.
He reports no one was living at the home as it was under renovation and no one was there when the fire broke out.
Firefighters were on scene for three hours. The owner did not have insurance on the building.
Wilber says the fire caused the siding to melt on the house to the west and that one firefighter suffered a minor injury.
Firefighters used 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
