COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer along with four members of the City Council whose terms expire at the end of this year have all filed to run in this year’s City Elections.
City Council members who have filed to be on the ballot are Scott Houtz in the fourth ward, John Petzko in the third ward, Chad Johnson in ward two and Emily Rissman in the first ward.
Kramer has been Mayor since 2011. Houtz has been on the Council since 2016, Petzko has served since 2018, Johnson since 2020 and Rissman since 2019.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Mayor and the four Council members are not facing opposition.
Coldwater city elections are held every odd year at which time four members of Council are elected for a four-year term and the Mayor for a two-year term. These are non-partisan positions.
Candidates have to be at least 21 years old, be a registered elector of the city who is not in default to the city and must be a resident of the City for at least two years continuously immediately preceding the election.
Persons interested in running for Council or Mayor must submit nominating petitions by 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday, April 25, 2023
Petitions need to be signed by not less than 25 nor more than 100 registered electors of the City Council member candidate’s ward or the entire City for mayoral candidates.
If there are no more than two candidates filing for any one Council seat, there will not be a Primary Election. Packets for filing are available at the City Clerk’s office.
