COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department announced on Friday they now have a new U.A.V. team within their department with U.A.V. standing for Unmanned or Unscrewed Aerial Vehicle, commonly referred to as drones.
The use of drones for the Sheriff’s Office has been studied for several years before becoming a reality just before the start of 2023.
The Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release that several local service organizations and individuals were generous and instrumental in making this new unit a reality with the donation of a DJI Matrice 30T drone with thermal capabilities.
The device provides rapid deployment and is specifically designed for Search And Rescue operations.
It can also be used critical incident overwatch and mapping missions.
The Sheriff’s Office believes this U.A.V. will aid them in protecting the citizens of Branch County by giving them another tool.
They plan to have public demonstrations this summer to showcase the capabilities of the new equipment.
More information will be posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
