COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two road projects that are budgeted for the 2023-24 fiscal year were approved by the Coldwater City Council on Monday night. The Council approved a bid of over $532,000 from Thompson Construction for the local street milling and overlay project.
The project funds will be allocated from the City’s Act 51 Major Street Fund.
The streets scheduled for repaving this year include Northshore Drive from Chestnut to Hatch Avenue, Candlewood Court, Chestnut Run, Shoshoni Pass, Arapaho, Appaloosa, Iroquois, West Pearl Street from U.S.-12 to Jay Street, Western Avenue from Bishop Avenue to Hatch Avenue, South Sprague Street between U.S.-12 to Washington Street and Sauk River Drive from South Sprague to South Michigan Avenue.
Baker says there was a difference of almost $100,000 between the low bid by Thompson and the next lowest bid by Excell Paving who completed last year’s mill and paving project.
In addition, the Council approved a bid of over $521,000 for the reconstruction of Butters Avenue from U.S. 12 to Race Street from Reith-Riley of Goshen, Indiana.
Baker says project funds would be budgeted from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act allocation.
A detour is planned utilizing Jay Street to Race Street to redirect traffic around the work zone.
