COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council scheduled a public hearing for May 8 on Monday night on a proposed rehabilitation project concerning proposed office space at 32 Tibbits Plaza and 50 West Pearl Street.
Coldwater Executive Suites owns the property and have filed an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Abatement Certificate application.
City Assessor Samantha Albright says an estimated investment of over $250,000 has been proposed and will exceed the minimum requirement of $50,000.
She reported to the City Council on Monday that the one-story structure will be fully renovated with two separate office spaces being created.
Albright said the OPRA Committee decided recently to recommend an eight year certificate.
About 46 positions will be retained or construction jobs will be needed during the rehabilitation project.
Albright said there are no delinquent taxes related to the facility. The building was constructed in the early 1970’s. It was designed as commercial office space and will continue to operate as such.
The building lacks modern and efficient electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. The walls, floors and ceilings are also in poor condition due to extensive water damage.
The building also lacks ADA compliance in accordance to today’s standards.
