COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team had their hitting sticks going Thursday, collecting 31 total hits as they swept their non-conference doubleheader against Three Rivers at the Rotary Softball Complex, 9-3 and 10-3.
In the opener, Coldwater exploded for seven runs in the first inning, as every Cardinal in the lineup had at least one hit. Brooklyn Kerry had a double and three singles, Alexis Bills had two doubles and a single, and Maren DeBeau finished with three singles. Bills picked up the complete game win.
In the nightcap, Three Rivers scored three unearned runs in the second inning. The Cardinals tied the game up in the third and took the lead for good in the fourth thanks to a two-run homer from Kenzie Scheid:
They added five insurance runs in the sixth. Bills singled, doubled, and drove home four runs, and Danika Cox had three singles. Scheid added a single and was also the winning pitcher, allowing no walks while striking out 6.
Coldwater improved to 12-3 and will return to action Tuesday at Pennfield.
