COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Board of Directors at the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility approved a resolution during their Thursday board meeting that was required by the Branch County Board of Commissioners so that the county can advance the facility $250,000 in order to help them get through some tight financial times this spring.
Commissioner Jon Houtz told Commissioners during their Friday meeting things at Maple Lawn seem to be getting better.
A resolution adopted by Commissioners on April 11 asked for a long term financial sustainability plan from Maple Lawn.
Maple Lawn is still in the process of paying back the State of Michigan $874,000 after they got a notice of a Medicaid Interim Payment adjustment last June.
Maple Lawn Administrator Jayne Sabaitis told the commissioners during their April 6 work session that the $250,000 advance should be the only cash needed from the county.
Commissioners voted last August to advance Maple Lawn up to $1 million in $250,000 increments. This was the first increment to be drawn.
Maple Lawn is awaiting an anticipated $3.6 million Employee Retention Credit from the federal government, which was part of the COVID-19 relief package and are expecting a percentage increase in Medicaid reimbursement.
A cut in residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic is seen as the main reason Maple Lawn has gotten into this financial position.
