COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence Executive Director Kim Hemker says according to their preliminary numbers, it looks like they raised about $53,000 from last Saturday’s Walk a Mile in their Shoes event on South Monroe Street.
She says they had about 27 dogs that walked abd close to 100 walkers and runners for the 5K race.
There were hundreds of regular walkers who supported survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the march.
Hemker adds they sold over 100 breakfasts.
She stated, “We want to thank all of our sponsors, supporters and the community for making this a huge kick off to the wave of advocacy and the flood of hope that is taking over the community in support of domestic and sexual violence victim/survivors.”
Walk A Mile in Their Shoes was sponsored by Southern Michigan Bank and Trust, McDonald’s and Century Bank & Trust.
This will be the third year the event has been held on South Monroe after it previously took place at the Coach Eby Youth and Family Center.
