QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Voters in the Quincy Community School District approved a proposal on Tuesday which renews building and site sinking fund millage that expires with the 2023 tax levy and restores millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963.
The proposal passed 456 to 275. It was the only ballot proposal in Branch County on Tuesday.
It passed in both of the Quincy Township precincts. Voters in precinct one said yes 116-43 while it passed in precinct two 177-91.
Algansee Township voters also said yes 102-63. Allen Township voters outside of the county approved it 29-24. Butler Township voters said no 44-22 while the proposal tied in California Township 10-10.
Just under 13 percent of registered voters in the district cast ballots on Tuesday.
A sinking fund is a school revenue account approved by voters and designated for school building construction, renovation and repairs. Current state funding does not provide such funds.
District officials said this was not a new type of tax. The proposal request on Tuesday’s ballot renews and restores the building and sinking fund millage for four years.
