COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The free ride may soon be over for electric vehicles owners in the City of Coldwater.
The Coldwater B.P.U. Board approved a recommendation from Director Paul Jakubczak on Wednesday night to charge a rate of two dollars per hour for the first four hours and four dollars per hour for each additional hour thereafter.
He pointed out that with the recent uptick in the availability of Electric Vehicles, the CBPU recently installed a two-port vehicle charging station on the southwest side of Four Corners Park that was in addition to another charging station on West Chicago Street that was installed as part of a grant.
This rate would be set for all four of the CBPU’s charging ports at the two locations. Electric Vehicle owners would have to download an app which will take and process payments.
A proposed ordinance now moves onto the City Council where it has to be introduced first. If approved, the proposed rates would take effect July 1, 2023.
