COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Work has begun on a two-stall ADA-accessible permanent public restroom that is being constructed in Tibbits Alley off of South Monroe.
The project is funded in part by a $20,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council. The Coldwater City Council decided in March of 2022 to push the restroom project back for at least a year in order to pursue a grant due in part to labor shortages and the high cost of building materials.
Brussee/Brady Inc. submitted a winning bid of $171,900. In addition to the construction of the restroom building, the City will perform about $15,000 in utility work to connect the building to the City’s system.
While they will apparently not be ready in time for Strawberry Fest on June 17, it’s hoped the new restrooms in the alley that connects South Monroe to Tibbits Plaza will be ready in late June.
The restrooms will be available for those who attend various events on South Monroe but will not be open year round.

I was under the impression the rest rooms were to be for the public!
Not just for special events only. I know it is not practical for them to be open 24 hours a day,
but would be nice if they were at least during store hours.
