COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities said on Friday they were recently informed that a fraudulent scam might be targeting their customers.
According to a CBPU news release, the people behind the fraud are claiming to be their utility/internet provider and are spoofing the CBPU’s information.
The Coldwater BPU is advising customers to keep an eye out for automated call-out systems, after-hours phone calls or any email/phone call that asks for credit card information.
If you ever feel like something isn’t right and you may be part of a scam, hang up and call the customer service number on your utility bill. This will ensure you’re speaking to a real utility employee.
For CBPU customers, that number is (517) 279-9531.
