COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council gave their okay to a pair of items on Monday night that were previously approved by the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors.
Following a study from Utility Financial Solutions and with major upgrades planned in about four years at the B.P.U. wastewater treatment plant, the City Council give their approval to a resolution that calls for overall rates for water and wastewater be increased yearly through 2028.
Rates will be hiked yearly by three-point-nine percent for water and two-point-nine percent for wastewater and would go into effect on July 1.
B.P.U. Director Paul Jakubczak told the City Council the higher rates are necessary in order to meet future needs.
The City Council also introduced an ordinance which covers the B.P.U.’s plans to charge electric vehicle owners when they plug into one of the charging stations on the southwest side of Four Corners Park and on West Chicago.
The B.P.U. would charge a rate of two dollars per hour for the first four hours and four dollars per hour for each additional hour thereafter.
Electric Vehicle owners would have to download an app which will take and process payments. Pending final action by the City Council during their next meeting, the proposed rates would take effect July 1, 2023.
