COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Runs were at a premium Tuesday night as Coldwater split an Interstate 8 girls softball doubleheader with Parma Western.
The Panthers won the opening game 2-1 before the Cardinals won the nightcap 1-0.
Coldwater scratched across a run in the last of the second in the first game before Western rallied for single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Alexis Bills took the hard luck loss despite 12 strikeouts.
Rylie VanAken’s RBI single in the last of the sixth in the second game snapped a scoreless tie. Karlie Knisely scored after opening the inning with a double.
VanAken finished with two hits.
Winning pitcher Kenzie Scheid tossed a four-hitter as she struck out eight. Hailey Whisman pitched both games for Western and whiffed 21 batters.
Coldwater is now 18-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
