QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles baseball team managed to get a split with Jonesville on Tuesday in a Big 8 Conference doubleheader on the Orioles diamond. It also marked the last time Quincy faced Jonesville as conference foes.
Jonesville won game one 5-1 but Quincy came back in the nightcap 6-2.
The Comets moved their Big 8 record to 8-2 while the Orioles are one game back at 7-3 heading into the home stretch of conference play.
Jonesville led 2-1 in the sixth inning of the opener when they took advantage of three errors to score three runs and extend their lead to 5-1.
Ryan Kempter, Brady Mescher, Hunter Tinervia and Grant Holroyd had hits for the Orioles. Tinervia also added an RBI.
The Orioles set the tone for the second game when they scored five runs in the first inning. Dreden Feltner went the first five innings to earn the win. Kempter pitched the final two innings to record the save. The duo fanned seven Comet hitters.
Tinervia had a run scoring single during the five run outburst. The biggest hit in the inning was a two out, two run single by Feltner.
The Orioles return to action this Saturday traveling to Jackson to play in the Al Glick Invitational. The Orioles will begin play against Jackson High School at 10:00 am.
