COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County continues to negotiate with Algansee Township about a lease agreement for the old Animal Control Shelter south of Quincy.
The Township wants to renovate the building into a township hall.
The County owns the building which is now being used by the Road Commission for storage.
County Administrator Bud Norman described how the renovated building would look like when he made a power point presentation during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
He said the township is interested in 1,500 square feet of the building and it’s estimated a renovation would cost the township $150,000.
Commissioners seemed to favor a lease that would run up to 50 years at a dollar a year.
After further discussion, Commissioners asked Norman put together a draft ordinance on leasing the building after he talks further with the township.
The Branch County Animal Control Shelter next to the County Jail opened in October of 2017. It was needed after a fire in May 2015 heavily damaged the old shelter.
