MENDON, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers track teams had a very good night at the John Green Mendon Invitational on Friday night as the boys brought home the team championship trophy while the girls took second place.
Union City won the boys meet with 146 points followed by Centreville with 118 and Athens with 71.
Logan Cole of Union City won the shot put and discus. His winning distance of 143 feet, seven inches in the discus beat the second place finished by nearly 26 feet.
The Chargers also got a pair of wins and two second place finishes in the relays. The team of Alex Hull, Caden Hughes, Hunter Sinke and Riley Laird won the 800 relay. Nathaniel Maurer, Cohen Burdick, Hull and Sinke teamed up to win the 1600 relay. Maurer, Hughes, Hull and Laird finished second in the 400 relay while Jason Shoop, Burdick, Malachi Payne and Ben Gautsche were second in the 3200 relay.
Laird was third in the 100 while Hughes was fourth. Hughes also fourth in the 200. Sinke was second in the 400. Gautsche was third in the 800 and second in the 1600. Payne was fifth in the 1600. Shoop was second in the 3200. Maurer and Dylon McDonald were third and fourth in the 110 hurdles. Maurer was also third in the 300 hurdles. Drake Myers was third in the shot put while Joseph Johnson was fourth. Gavin Kelly was third in the discus while Johnson was fourth. Hull was third in the pole vault.

Union City finished seven points behind Centreville for first place in the girls meet. The Bulldogs had 121 points followed by the Chargers with 114 and Athens with 101 points.
The Chargers got individual wins from Adalynn Rumsey in the 200 and the long jump, Nevada Gillons in the 300 hurdles and from Kyla Burdick in the pole vault.
Two relay teams crossed the finish line first. Gillons, Rumsey, Addison Meyer and Mackenzie Hale won the 400 relay. The team of Hale, Willow Austin, Abigail Goodrich and Rumsey won the 800 relay.
Goodrich was fourth in the 100 while Hale was fifth. Goodrich was fourth in the 200. Austin was third in the 400. Burdick was third in the 800. Skylar Fraley was second in the 1600 and 3200. Gillons was second in the 100 hurdles. Hale was fifth in the long jump.
