SPRINGPORT, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers baseball team is getting hot at the right time with the M.H.S.A.A. state tournament just a couple of weeks away.
The Chargers swept a Big 8 Conference doubleheader at Springport on Tuesday by scores of 6-2 and 9-8 as they extended their winning streak to seven straight games.
Ryan Zweng was the winning pitcher in the first game. Owen Jackson tripled and drove in two runs while Rick Austin had two doubles.
Austin was credited with the second game win on the mound as Union City rallied for two runs in the last of the seventh.
Tyler Wagley’s sent the Chargers home happy with a two out walk off RBI single.
Union City is now 8-4 in the Big 8 Conference and 19-6 overall.
