UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and the first raising of the new 15 by 25 foot American flag on Sunday, May 28 at 3:00 p.m..
The large flag will be flying through Memorial Day on May 29.
American Legion Post 196 will be on hand to assist with raising of the flag. They will also be providing snacks and refreshments under the dome next to the flag afterwards.
A brick pillar at the base of the flag pole is being worked on at this time, but it is expected to be complete before the ceremony.
The flag pole was donated in the memory of the Olds and Washburn families, who settled in this area in 1840 and 1862, respectively and was made possible by a donation from Vicki Wyman.
