CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – A St. Joseph County Circuit Court jury found a defendant guilty on four counts Thursday for attacking a family member with a hammer on August 14, 2022 at a Sturgis residence.
29-year-old Brandon Forbes was convicted following a one day trial for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and three counts of Resisting and Obstructing Police.
Authorities say after Forbes was placed under arrest and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, he tried to strike a St. Joseph County Sheriff’s deputy and resisted deputies’ efforts to restrain him. Police had to use a taser on him.
The jury acquitted Forbes on one count of Resisting/Obstructing Police.
Forbes was convicted as a third habitual offender. Sentencing is set for June 23, 2023.
