BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A total of fifteen track athletes and one relay team from Branch County will compete at the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Finals on June 3rd following their performances at Friday’s Regional meets. The top two finishers in each event, along with those that meet the additional qualifying standard, will move on.
At the Division 2 Regional at Mason, Coldwater’s girls team finished seventh. Elli Foley won the shot put, Grace Huff was first in the 800m run, and Lainey Yearling was second in the 3200m run; all advanced to the Division 2 Lower Peninsula Final at Forest Hills Eastern. The Cardinal boys were fifteenth.

At the Division 3 Regional at Hillsdale High School, Quincy was third in the girls competition, Union City eighth, and Bronson tied for 14th with Springport. On the boys side, Union City finished seventh, Quincy ninth, and Bronson 11th. For the Orioles, Sophia Snellenberger was a double winner in the shot put and discus, Raigen Horsfall was second in the discus, Brooke McVicker was second in the girls pole vault, and Corey Turner was second in the boys pole vault. For the Charger boys, Alex Hull won the boys pole vault and anchored the second-place 4x200m relay team along with Riley Laird, Caden Hughes, and Hunter Sinke. Logan Cole was second in both the shot put and discus. The Charger girls were led by Skyler Fraley, who was second in the 1600m run, and Nevada Gillons, second in the 100m hurdles. Bronson’s Boston Bucklin qualified with his second place finish in the 800m run. All will compete in the Division 3 Lower Peninsula Final at Kent City.

At the Division 4 Regional at Hillsdale College, Tekonsha’s boys were 11th, while the girls were 12th. Kyle Redd was runner-up in the boys 100m dash; also advancing for the Indians based on additional qualifying criteria were Wyatt Blashfield, who was fifth in the boys shot put, and Dani VanLente, third in the girls 3200m run. The Division 4 Lower Peninsula Finals will be at Baldwin Middle School in Hudsonville.
