QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department and Coldwater Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened at about 9:15 a.m. Sunday morning in Quincy Township.
According to a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Department Sunday night, Sheriff Deputies and Coldwater Police were assisting Quincy Police in executing a search warrant.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said on Monday the warrant was in connection to a narcotics investigation. As deputies and Coldwater officers entered the front door they were met by an aggressive dog that had bitten one the officers in the hand.
Being unable to subdue the dog during the attack, the Sheriff’s Department reported the officers had to shoot the dog. According to further information released by the Sheriff’s Department on Monday, the dog survived the shooting.
One of the male officers obtained what was described as a non-life threatening wound and is reported to be resting at home in stable condition.
No names have been released. The location of the incident was not released but logs from 9-1-1 Central Dispatch would indicate it took place at a property on U.S. 12 on the east side of Quincy.
The Branch County Sheriff Reserves, Quincy Firefighters and Lifecare Ambulance assisted at the scene.
