COMSTOCK, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers swept the Comstock Colts in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Friday as they won by scores of 17-8 and 7-1.
Union City continue to swing some hot bats as they scored 24 runs on 28 hits in the doubleheader.
Union City collected 15 hits in the opening game. Ryan Zweng drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Chargers. Jakob Fosmore also had three hits.
Tyler Wagley’s two run double in the first inning got the Chargers off on the right foot. They then notched six runs in the second inning as Aidan Decker, Zweng, Wagley, Jakob Fosmore and Luke Fletcher all drove in runs.
Union City’s Luke Watson was the winning pitcher as he went four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out seven.
Union City snapped a 1-1 tie in the second game with a three run second inning. Owen Jackson’s double scored two runs and Decker singled in another run.
Jackson was the winning pitcher in the rain-shortened nightcap. He surrendered one run on three hits over five innings, striking out nine.
The Chargers are now 22-7 overall and 8-4 in the Big 8 Conference.
They will host Quincy for the final league double header on Tuesday
