COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman gave an update to the Board of Commissioners during their Thursday work session on the three phase process for the demolition of the old county jail.
Normon said they are still awaiting word on their application for a state grant of up to $200,000 to help fund the demolition.
He said as of now the second and third phases of the demolition would take place during 2024.
Norman indicated to Commissioner Jon Houtz they will proceed with the demolition even if they don’t get the state grant.
The grant is part of a program offered by the State of Michigan in which over $21 million is being made available to communities to address vacant and abandoned properties.
The new Branch County Jail began housing inmates in December of 2021.
