COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told County Commissioners during their work session on Thursday that a $250,000 cash offer has been made to purchase the old Lakeland Elementary School on Otis Road from the county.
He indicated to Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker the offer was less than what they were asking for.
Realtor Debbie Lounds-Bowers also recommended the Commissioners accept the offer.
The name of the party making the offer was not revealed during the discussion but it was confirmed later in the afternoon that Wade Longstreet is purchasing the building.
Commissioners brought the offer forward for formal action during their June 13 meeting.
Coldwater Community Schools sold the building and land to Branch County in May of 2021 for $150,000. It became one of five locations for new towers as part of the enhanced 911 project.
The old Lakeland School south of Coldwater closed in April of 2021 following almost 60 years of service after the new fourth and fifth grade Lakeland School was built on Western Avenue in Coldwater.
