BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals softball team saw their season come to a end on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten by Three Rivers 1-0 in the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two District championship game at Harper Creek. The Wildcats denied the Cardinals a third straight district championship as they scored the only run they needed in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.
In winning the district championship, Three Rivers avenged two defeats they suffered against the Cardinals on April 27 at the Rotary Softball Complex when Coldwater won by scores of 9-3 and 10-3. Saturday’s championship game showed why the post season can be so much different as Coldwater was held to five hits, two of them by Rylee Rice. Coldwater advanced to the championship game with a 10-0 win over Sturgis. Mackenzie Scheid went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Alexis Bills homered and drove in four runs. Rice also had two hits. Mya Porter was the winning pitcher. The Cardinals ended up with a record of 32-8.
