BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Dry weather and smoke from Canadian wild fires continue to cause problems for those who are trying to enjoy summer.
Branch County has been included in an Air Quality Alert which in effect until midnight Thursday.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has declared Wednesday and Thursday to be Action Days for elevated levels of smoke. Pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range.
People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to smoke formation. It is recommended that active children and adults along with persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
WDIV-TV reports the air quality in Detroit was ranked as among the worst in the world as of Wednesday morning.
Officials are warning people to stay inside because of the healthy air. In a throwback to the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic, residents are being asked to consider wearing an N95 mask outside in order to reduce exposure to pollutants.
Red Flag Warnings are in effect due to critical fire weather conditions in the northern half of the Lower Peninsula and the eastern part of the U.P..
If things aren’t crazy enough, it maybe the first week of June but a Frost Advisory has been issued for Thursday morning in the western Upper Peninsula where temperatures may get down to the low 30s.
