LANSING, MI (WTVB) – 17th District Republican State Senator Jonathan Lindsey has been nominated by Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt to be a voting member representing Senate Republicans on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Growing Michigan Together Council.
The Council will be focused on Michigan’s trending population losses.
Nesbitt said in a statement from his office, “Sen. Lindsey is a thoughtful and fiscally responsible public servant — he will provide a valuable voice on this council juxtaposed to recycled bad ideas of higher taxes and more government. Michigan’s slowed population growth is a serious concern for the future of our state. It should inspire all sides of government to come together and compromise to find real solutions. Now is not the time for our governor to double down on go-it-alone policies — already proved disastrous during the COVID crisis — that seek to usurp the checks and balances of the full Legislature.”
Although billed as a bipartisan panel, the Growing Michigan Together Council will consist solely of gubernatorial appointments.
It will be led by bipartisan co-chairs and be made up of 28 members, 21 voting and 7 non-voting.
Voting members will include two members of the State House and two members of the Michigan Senate.
