COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team celebrated their recently completed season, which included their first Interstate 8 championship in seven years, at their team banquet Sunday at the Lakeland Elementary School cafeteria. Junior pitcher/infielder Kenzie Schied was voted by her teammates the Most Valuable Player, while freshman outfielder Danika Cox was named Most Improved Player. Freshman shortstop Rylie VanAken won the Silver Slugger Award after leading the team with a .457 batting average. Senior outfielder Brooklyn Kerry was honored as the team’s Defensive Specialist, and the Most Dedicated Player Award was shared by senior Rylee Rice and junior Morgan Dancer.

Coldwater finished the campaign with a 32-9 record. All four seniors will be playing college softball next year: Alexis Bills and Karlie Knisely at Kellogg Community College, Rylee Rice at Hope College, and Brooklyn Kerry at Alma College.
